Temporary Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine – HSE Ireland
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join a progressive and patient-focused service within the HSE system in Ireland.
This role offers the chance to work within Ireland’s nationally integrated public healthcare system, delivering high-quality, person-centred care to older adults across acute and community settings. You will play a key role in strengthening frailty pathways, enhancing multidisciplinary collaboration, and supporting service development in line with national healthcare priorities.
About the Role
As a Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine, you will:
Provide expert clinical leadership in the care of older persons, including complex frailty and multimorbidity
Deliver Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) across acute and community interfaces
Contribute to acute medical take (where applicable)
Lead and support multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, including nursing, therapy, and social care colleagues
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Support national and regional service development aligned with HSE reform programmes
Supervise and mentor NCHDs (Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors)

Candidate Requirements
Registration as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (Geriatric Medicine)
Significant experience in Geriatric Medicine, including frailty and complex care management
Demonstrated leadership and team-working abilities
Commitment to quality improvement and service innovation
Excellent communication and organisational skills
